About HIA

Implementation experience from several sides of the table.

Melissa Mugambi, founder of Health Innovation Advisors

The best implementation advice is built with the people who have to make it work.

HIA works alongside client teams rather than delivering findings from the outside.

Health Innovation Advisors is a founder-led global health advisory with deep expertise in diagnostics and health technologies, alongside experience in service delivery and implementation. Founder Melissa Mugambi, MD, PhD brings more than 15 years of experience spanning product development, implementation research, global health funding, health systems, and advising. Her experience includes roles at the Gates Foundation, CDC, Clinton Health Access Initiative, and the University of Washington, alongside work with health innovators and health-system stakeholders.

Health interventions rarely succeed or fail for just one reason. A promising technology or service can be held back by the product itself, the evidence supporting it, how it fits into clinical workflows, the health system around it, or the people responsible for delivering it. HIA helps clients see across these perspectives, identify what matters most, and determine what to do next.

Who we work with

HIA works with global health funders, health innovators, implementing organizations, and health-system leaders navigating consequential implementation decisions.

We also advise experienced global health professionals responsible for moving complex initiatives forward who need an independent thought partner to help make sense of the path ahead.

What we’re exploring

Building implementation capability.

Experienced health professionals are often asked to lead complex initiatives while managing competing priorities, multiple stakeholders, limited resources, and demanding day-to-day responsibilities.

HIA is exploring a structured advising model that gives these leaders an experienced, independent thought partner to help clarify the problem, narrow the scope, work through difficult decisions, and turn ambitious plans into feasible action.
